Say My Name Online presence

My LinkedIn Profiel has proved invaluable in connecting with proffesionals in the industry. I have recieved an interest of employing me.....

Studio Branding - Say My Name

Say My Name studio was founded with the premise of providing three of us to keep activley working within design after University. We have found that working together is a great way of sharing strengths and improving weaknesses, Say My Name has evolved over the period of a month to a point where we have gained a commission and been asked to pitch for work twice. This is a great start to our post hand in collaborative practice and will allow us to set up a studio whilst we find full time employment which ultimately will fund the studio later in the year.

Self branding - Personal

This is my self branding before we set up the studio Say My Name.

Due to financial commitments my personal still be used whilst Say My Name is founded in a more official and business legal capacity, we have a website holding page, business cards and business plan.

It is necessary to keep my employment options open whilst Say My Name is set up over the course of the year. At this stage in my career I need to present myself in the best light for employers and not turn down employment opportunities. Say My Name will act as a great outlet and a spring board into a self directed career if I cannot gain full time work in a studio.

Placements

This year has seen me try many times to gain a placement, internships and a job within a design studio that I felt a synergy with. Unfortunately it has reached a stage whereby I have received only interest and  hopes of being offered a job which have not been followed through on their end.

I have sent my folio and offers of interest to work with several studios, several failed to reply and a couple have stated that I am not what they are looking for.

Paul Smith, Creative Director of Distraction Studio spoke with me several times about employing me for the soon to open Leeds office. I have emailed several times in order to set this up, however I have received no replies from them.

Vanessa Christian, the Creative Director at Equator design became very interested in my work and spoke several times of having me as a Junior designer in the Nottingham office. Due to the fact that it would be uneconomical for me to commute I had to turn the offer of interest down.

Both of these situations represent my year of trying to gain employment but for various reason I have been unable to secure opportunities.

Email to studio

Email sent to I LIKE BIRDS

Andre, Susanne.

As a result of coming to the end of our studies with little desire to work for a larger design studio or agency, we three soon-to-be graduates are looking for some help and advice in setting up for ourselves. We understand that this is a competitive market so we don't take the following for granted, nor do we ask it with little respect for your business.

Quite the contrary, it is because of the reputation of I Like Birds that we would like to ask if it is possible to have a chat with you about how you got to your feet, who was there to help with all the legal and business side of things and if there is any roads that we should avoid walking down in our first year.

Starting out for yourself is a daunting, exciting and nervous time for anyone, it is because of all these things that we are excited to get the ball rolling and meet people who found themselves in a similar situation. Can you help us?

Thank you,
Have a great week,
Lizzi, Mike and Suzanne.
